| How fast does it go? - The best answer is, It depends. A small 1/10th competition car designed for blistering speed can go to 100 mph! Fast cars are fun. For a rough idea of the speeds you can expect, see the chart below. |
But remember: your actual miles-per-hour will
vary! All 1/10th cars are very fast indeed. You will get more speed and
reliability from your vehicle after you become familiar with its features.
Cornering ability and driving skill often beats top speed when the finish line is reached. |

Interest in glowfuel cars has rocketed! Modellers enjoy the realistic sound and smell that goes with glowfuel's explosive acceleration and speed.
Handy pull-start engines and 1/10 scale vehicles have increased the popularity and affordability of glowfuel-car racing. Beware the 2nd hand market! Misused cars may look nice but have clapped out engines! Some new car or truck bodies come unpainted and untrimmed. No problem. Just cut it out, put on some stickers and your favourite acrylic colour paint and you're ready to tear off. |

How do I start & what does a Green Hobby outfit cost? Things to consider: first - electric cars are most suitable for under 12s unless adult help is available! In RC vehicles, there are two drive types: two-wheel drive (2WD) and four-wheel drive (4WD). Second - Green Hobby select the easiest makes of car to learn on if you're new to R/C. Also - consider 2WD - they require less assembly & maintenance, cost less. The trade-off is that 4WD vehicles offer better faster cornering. • A 2WD 1/10th electric car with quality rechargable nicads and fast charger costs €250-300. Cheap nicads are available, so are cheaper mains slow chargers, so a basic outfit deal will be the one for €250. The advanced deal would be mid €300s. • A 2WD 1/10th nitro-glowfuel car costs €340 for the car, engine and gear required. A full outfit from Green Hobby comprises car, radio controls , glowstarter, glowplug wrench, filler bottle and glowfuel, this includes a tough lexan body • For a better 4WD 1/10th nitro rally car it is €375+ for the outfit with the car/engine pre-painted. If you choose an unpainted car body you can do your own custom paint job car. We have them completed for €395 to €575 approx for the same in bigger 1/8th size. • A larger 1/10th offroad nitro race truck or buggy with 2.6cc glowfuel engine is bigger faster and more durable. Many nylon parts are now upgraded to steel and alloy. This size of offroader just got a lot cheaper. It's now about €400 (4WD) for the complete deal (if you are starting with no equipment). • Many experienced R/C race drivers drive
competition 1/8th scale nitro cars capable of high speed. These powerful cars are
superb to watch and drive! A good competition car outfit costs
from €500 - 800.
Running costs go up with these, tyres wear out fast and are not cheap! Computer
40FM R/C and stronger servos are needed so about €150 of other costs will arise
in competition cars.
