Who we
are …
Greene
Engineering started 80 years ago, when Tommy Greene built the first
motor bike in Ireland.
Tommy raced for the Rudge team for many years as a partner to the great
Stanley Woods, and he won the motor cycle French & Spanish Grand Prix as
well as several other international races.
Tommy Greene founded a business in Dublin constructing custom built
motor cycles which continued after the first world war.
Motor car repairs were later added to the business.
In
the 1960's Tommy emigrated
and retired to live in Australia
and the motor cycle manufacture was discontinued.
Cyril
Greene, Tommy's son, carried on the leisure engineering. He
designed and built what was likely the first motor camper to drive on
Ireland's roads. Later he added marine engines & lawnmowers to Greene
Marine Ltd range during the 1960s.
At Greene Marine,
Cyril decided to concentrate on leisure engineering, particularly
in boat engines, as well as portable generators, and lawnmowers.
Norman
Greene is the 3rd Greene generation and Norman introduced
hobby engineering for modellers to the business.
An enthusiastic
fisherman, Norman introduced the first float tubes into Ireland in the
late 1980's. He has been happily catching pike and trout from float tubes
since.
Norman runs the models side of Greene Group.
With
Cyril running the larger engine side of the business.
Adrienne takes good care of invoicing, phones, parts
ordering, stocking and customer communications.
Liam is our backoffice looking after the
accounts.
Patrick joined the group in 2003. Patrick
has a huge experience in modelling. He works on the "small" engineering
at Greene Marine.
Ali is a marine engineer who has worked
on just every type of engine overseas before he joined us. Ali
concentrates mainly on the marine engines.
