Benwiskin Mountain Slope , Co Sligo

  Pic awaited
  Benwiskin Slope, Co Sligo

Benwiskin does not have direct car access and is a hillwalking trip.

There are farms in this area which do not welcome hillwalkers, you don't have access everywhere you like the appearance of. So look out for signs and fences with "private" messages and steer clear of those.

Take the Bundoran road out of Sligo, out as far as Cliffoney .
At Cliffoney turn right, and continue straight towards the mountains, and heading for the prominent Truskmore Mountain TV transmitter mast.
But before getting to the horseshoe valley between Truskmore and Benwiskin  mountain, there is a crossroads at Moneylahan. Turn right here.

Ask at the farmer's house for permission first before crossing fences in this area!

Walk up the slope to a convenient spot, this is a huge slope, one of the biggest in Ireland. If you go north to the point of the mountain the lift is very steep. Best in North-west, north, to north-east winds.

The view over the surrounding land and sea is breathtaking and famous for it's beauty, but the lack of road access ensures peace and quiet..
