Céide Fields, Co. Mayo - Cliff Soaring - N, NW, WNW winds
Leave Ballina on the Killala road, there are signposts towards the "Ceide Fields" - the earliest known stoneage farming landscape excavated to date. This is on the north coast of Co Mayo and facing the Atlantic ocean, so wind is not in short supply. Park at the Ceide Fields interpretive centre. The cliffs are right across the road, and go on for miles ! The cliffs are several hundred metres high, vertical, so lift is incredible. The sea approach means that wind turbulence is practically non existent, the airflow being very laminar. Standing is on shortish sheep grazed grass and pleasant. Although we are on a north facing cliff line, there is a massive promontory on the right (pictured above) which faces north west, and west north west. Please email me your info about where you fly, so I can include it. n o r m _ f l y e r @ y a h o o . c o . u k |
