Fanore Beach & Dunes, Ballyvaghan, Co Clare - West Beach & Dunes slope

Fanore Beach is halfway along the Co Clare western "Burren" seaboard, between the Cliffs of Moher (to the south) and Black Head (to the north). Fanore is famous for it's dunes ecosystem, and also as a surfing beach, so there will often  be kite surfers along the seashore. Sometimes hang gliders fly here too.  Don't crowd them with models, everybody needs space to fly, and there is plenty here.

Fanore faces west, although there are headlands at intervals where variable wind can be exploited for slope lift.

I have intended for a long time, to try out a nearby venue while at Fanore, but have not got the opportunity yet. This is Slieve Elva, the Burren Mountain just inland of Fanore, and I have marked the promising locations for soaring off Slieve Elva. So if you are there - give it a try, and send me your pictures and opinions of this alternative flying site.

 Please email me your info about where you fly, so I can include it..  n o r m _ f l y e r @ y a h o o . c o . u k
