| What is Slope Soaring? |
Tonlegee Mountain, Wicklow Gap, Co Wicklow - W, SW, S, SE, E facing slopes
The Wicklow Gap lies about 30Km south of Dublin. Tonlegee is a rounded mountain at the side of the road and forms the north side of "the Gap". Across on the south side lies Tourlough Hill with the out of sight corrie Lough Nahanagan, and it's concealed hydro power station. The road skirts round Tonlegee. The slope begins west facing to south west, and it sweeps all the way round to SE just by following the road further up the valley. The car park is half way along at the south facing area, but you must climb uphill a bit to make the most of the middle part. This is a really good west or south west slope. One of the best. Planes just don't want to come down here! The SE slope goes on forever, slightly more gentle, but it is just vast in size.
Either drive through
Blessington on the Baltinglass Road, turn left for Hollywood, and
continue on towards Laragh for about 12Km. Please email me your info about where you fly, so I can include it.. n o r m _ f l y e r @ y a h o o . c o . u k |
