Wicklow Head, Co Wicklow - northeast - east - southeast slopes
Traditionally, model gliding at Wicklow Head was done from the slopes overlooking the town. However, my own
slope soaring here has all been in sea breezes from the actual Headland
itself, out and over the water. So you can take your pick. It depends on
what you like to do, and whether you are happy to overfly private
property. I prefer the coastal scenery anyway. The pictures are of the
places I have flown from. The top-middle and top- right pictures are taken from
the lighthouse. Drive to Wicklow Town via Rathnew. Go straight through the town, past Wicklow Golf Club. Shortly after leaving the town there is a sharp Z bend in the road. After the bend, turn left in through a red wrought iron metal gate beside a house. Follow this lane over cattle grids to the first slope facing North east. A little further is the lighthouse gate and you will see the old stonebuilt Wicklow Head lighthouse tower. Now you are at the main East facing Wicklow Head cliff slope. It's long and very nice. From here the new lighthouse is a short walk down the pathway. Please email me your info about where you fly, so I can include it.. n o r m _ f l y e r @ y a h o o . c o . u k |
